Cambodia business trip report 2023 (4/24-28)

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister

A group of six people, mainly members from Japan, paid a courtesy visit to the Peace Palace.
When we reported on the plan for the third inspection group, which is scheduled to take place over three days from November 20th to 22nd, we received their kind consent. Also, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and when I reported that I would like to set off Japanese fireworks on November 19th (Sunday) as the eve of the inspection team, Prime Minister Hun Sen himself confirmed the schedule and expressed his intention to participate. It was shown. We also received the opinion that King Sihamoni could also be invited. We encourage all members to secure their schedules now and join us for the 3rd inspection group.

Ong Pong Monirat Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance

JCA received the opinion that based on economic cooperation between Japan and Cambodia, we welcome the expansion and investment of many Japanese companies. “At the association, the number of cases in which small and medium-sized enterprises are interested has increased year by year.

JCA believe that if a tax system and preferential system for small and medium-sized enterprises were established like in Vietnam about 10 years ago, there would be even more desire to expand into Vietnam. What do you think?” I was told that we would form a task force team with local offices of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Cambodian Association, hold repeated discussions, and build up small successful models.

We have already completed the kick-off and are now in the third round of discussions, and we aim to achieve a certain level of results with our association’s resident members and overseas member companies. If you are a member company and are interested, please contact the secretariat.

H.E. Dr. SAY Samal, Minister of Environment

We held a luncheon with H.E. Dr. SAY Samal, Minister of Environment, who is one of the leaders of the new generation, and discussed gathering information for the next election and solutions to environmental issues. At the same time, he reported on the association’s donation of 10 garbage trucks, and expressed his gratitude, saying, “The performance of Japanese used cars is excellent and even better than new cars from other countries.”
He also concluded the luncheon by expressing his hope for continued support from the association.

H.E. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh

We made an inquiry regarding permission and approval for the fireworks display planned for November 19th (Sunday). The governor of Tokyo also took an interest in this project and promised to support us. We also checked on the operation of the six garbage trucks donated by our association two years ago, and we were pleased to hear that they are still operating at full capacity and are working very well.

Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs

At the third inspection mission scheduled for November with Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, we held discussions regarding matching with the Women Entrepreneurs Association. In Cambodia, the number of female entrepreneurs has increased in recent years, and I believe they are making a significant contribution to economic development and play an important role as business partners. In November, we would like to connect the companies participating in the inspection team with Cambodian female entrepreneurs and contribute to the development of their businesses.
