Cambodia communication No.23/85
November 22nd
According to Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Ratanak, renewable or clean energy accounts for 62% of the country’s total energy consumption. The Khmer Times reported.
According to the paper, “renewable energy” refers to hydroelectric power, solar energy, biomass energy, etc. In the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), member countries have agreed to increase the share of renewable energy to 35% by 2030. Minister Keo Ratanak said, “In the case of Cambodia, as of 2022, we are already using more than 62% clean energy,” of which 40% will be hydropower, 10% will be solar energy, and the rest will be from solar energy. It was revealed that this will be achieved through biomass power generation.
Additionally, Cambodia is currently capable of producing 4,000 megawatts of energy per year, but the total annual consumption is 2,400 megawatts, so they are considering exporting it to other countries in the future. It also revealed that as of 2022, 98.27% of all villages in Cambodia will now have access to electricity.
